Arkie Albanese, Class of 1943, Inducted in 2000

As mayor of Manlius, Arkie has significantly contributed to the growth and prosperity of the village since he entered politics in 1964. He served as Manlius Village Trustee from 1964 to 1978.

In 1978, Arkie was elected Mayor and has served in that position ever since. Arkie is an active advocate in the promotion of public and private partnerships for the growth and enhancement of the community.

His many achievements include successful implementation of the Manlius Senior Centre, protection and preservation of the village’s Historic District, creation of the village of Manlius recycling program, creation of the Industrial Access Project and improvements to the Swan Pond. Arkie is also an active community volunteer.

He has served on numerous committees, such as the Manlius Lions Club, the Advisory Board of the ABC program, Town of Manlius Republican Committee, including serving as chairman; and as chair and member of the Mayors Association of Onondaga County.

Finally, Arkie has received many awards throughout his career, including the Main Street Award – Empire State, and the Local Government Achievement Award.

"I’m deeply honored to be included in the inaugural F-M Hall of Distinction," Arkie said. "I’ve received awards in the past, but to receive this prestigious award is a significant highlight in my career."

"This award symbolizes a culmination of energy, talent and commitment by the teachers of F-M who were instrumental in providing a solid educational foundation," he said. "The significant contributions the award recipients are being recognized for are truly reflective of the extraordinary dedication and commitment of the F-M Board of Education and faculty."

Arkie Albanese and his wife Doris are longtime residents of the Fayetteville-Manlius area.
