Feb. 13, 2017: Budget workshop; state aid bases on executor proposal; vehicle replacement plan; present state aid revenue estimates based on the executive budget proposal; provide bus/vehicle replacement plan

February/March 2017: District newsletter sent out providing budget update; host community forums if necessary

March 1, 2017: Submit information necessary for the calculation of the tax levy limit to the state comptroller, commissioner of education and commissioner of taxation and finance; prepare board of education petitions for pick-up; distribute informational material and inform candidates of legal requirement for all candidates for election to board of education

March 13, 2017: Budget workshop (schedule prior to board of education meeting, if necessary); preliminary budget presentation; board of education adoption of legal notice of school budget hearing and budget vote
March 16, 2017: Send legal notice to newspapers; Advertise budget notice four times within seven weeks of the vote with the first publication 45 days before the budget vote

April 10, 2017: Final budget presentation and budget adoption; appoint election inspectors with alternates; property tax report card adoption; budget documents made available to the public at each building and on the district’s website.

April 11, 2017: Transmit property tax report card to SED (within 24 hours of adoption no later than April 24, 2017) and to local newspaper of general circulation

April 17, 2017: First preliminary expenditure campaign statement due (30 days preceding budget vote); deadline for submission of petitions for nominations of board of education candidates (30 days before election, 20 days in small cities); receive sworn statements by candidates for membership on the board of education; deadline for submission of petitions for propositions to be placed on ballot (30 days preceding budget vote)

April 18, 2017: Date for drawing by district clerk for determination of order for listing board candidates on ballot

April 19 to May 1, 2017: Prepare absentee ballot applications, absentee ballot, related envelopes, and directions; district clerk must maintain a list of names of all individuals provided with absentee ballots; list is subject to public inspection and legal challenge until the day of the election; clerk must mail an absentee ballot for every qualified voter who requests one; the ballot must be mailed no earlier than 30 days or no later than 7 days prior to election day; prepare paper ballots for voting machines.

April 21, 2017: Last possible date for budget adoption by the board of education

April 24, 2017: Final date for property tax report card to be submitted to SED

April 28, 2017: District newsletter mailed to all residents

May 8, 2017: Public hearing for budget, 3-part budget format

May 9, 2017: Budget postcard mailed; notice must be mailed to eligible voters after the budget hearing but no later than six days prior to the vote

May 11, 2017: Second preliminary expenditure campaign statement due (5 days preceding budget vote)

May 16, 2017: Statewide annual meeting/board election/budget vote day

June 15, 2017: Final expenditure campaign statement due

June 20, 2017: State-wide budget revote day (if necessary)

July 1, 2017: Implement 2017-18 budget
