"Hornets Swarm to Make a Difference"

Eagle Hill Character Education Committee

Spotlight on Character

The Character Education Committee and Student Leadership Council continue to celebrate our efforts to make a difference.  Throughout the school year, students and staff members will contribute to our interactive bulletin board.  The board will include individual and collective recognition, photographs, and examples of students’ work exemplifying the virtues of integrity, community, acceptance, and service.  Students and staff may submit recognition requests using the form that we have used in the past.  We will then display the certificate in the hall by the cafeteria to acknowledge good school citizen efforts.  Quotes centering on each virtue will be announced on Mondays.

Our fund-raising efforts for local organizations will include an effort to focus on one charity.  Students will be presented with an overview of the various charities during their orientation on the first day.  Then in their classrooms they will take a short survey to vote.  The goal will be then to bring in a speaker that represents the chosen charity to speak with the students.

This summer the Character Education Committee focused on the overarching theme of bullying both online, texting, and face-to-face.  The group researched and designed Spotlight Activities that would be offered to students.  There was a focus on two per quarter.  One would be geared towards 5th and 6th grade students and the other would be geared towards 7th and 8th grade students.   The bulletin board in the front entrance will advertise the various Spotlight Activities.   There will also be announcements made and summaries given at faculty meetings.

As a school we will also focus on the Attributes of the 21st Century Learner:  Effective Communicator; Global Learners; Critical Thinkers; Socially Responsible Citizens.
