This publication represents the extensive efforts of many dedicated and thoughtful individuals. We are truly grateful for their selfless devotion to this magazine and the steadfast belief in its worth.

The work included here emerges from the daily thoughts and lives of the children we see every day. Resisting the label of “kid’s work,” these piece are often incisive, challenging, and pointed, and are always told with the candor and eye-opening sincerity that mark the years many of us try to forget -- middle school.
