Spring’s First Ride
Annmarie W.

It’s the first warm wind
you’ve felt in a while,
rushing at your face
telling you to wake up
from your winter dream.
You remember so clearly,
it seems like yesterday
you were doing the same thing,
though really you’ve just been
waiting the snow out
for your chance again.
You breathe in that wonderful air
you know too well
and missed too much;
it opens your eyes
to the fresh new season.
You’re as free as the birds
chirping among their branches
as you take a break
from pushing on,
as you let the wind
take you faster and faster
than you ever felt you’ve been.
You leave your troubles
and forget the world for a while
on that first bike ride
of spring.
