March 8, 2017: A Mott Road Elementary School teacher has been named the 2017 Central North Zone Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year, an award that recognizes excellence in teaching and overall performance in the discipline of physical education.

Kory McMahon was recognized as teacher of the year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD) during a March 2 ceremony in Canastota.

“It’s an honor to win this award and be recognized for my effort along with some of the best physical education teachers in the state,” Mr. McMahon said. “I’m very fortunate to work at Fayetteville-Manlius where there is wonderful administrative support, an excellent teaching staff, and students who I look forward to teaching every day.”

The organization’s Central North Zone represents educators, health professionals and coaches who promote health, physical education, recreation and dance in Onondaga, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida and Oswego counties.

Mr. McMahon, of Manlius, is in his 18th year teaching physical education at F-M.
