Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) meetings should be scheduled for one time per week. Every effort should be made to limit the wait time for placing a student on a PPS agenda. Occasionally, scheduling two meetings per week or extending a PPS meeting are possible solutions to reduce the wait time. The approximate wait time for scheduling the initial meeting for a student is three weeks.
Teacher guidelines for referring a student to PPS: -
Teacher should contact the parent(s) to discuss concerns and gather data prior to referral to PPS. If a student is a new general education entrant to the F-M School District, there should be approximately a 5-week adjustment period prior to referring the student to the PPS team.
-
If a teacher is unsure whether to bring a student to PPS, the teacher should discuss the student concerns with the school psychologist/counselor/mentor team member to determine whether it is an appropriate referral or to obtain strategies to try in the classroom prior to the PPS referral.
-
Referring teacher should bring copies of student work, if applicable, to demonstrate concerns.
