Community

The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is located in a suburban community of approximately 25,000 people and serves the villages of Fayetteville, Manlius and the surrounding areas. It lies 10 miles southeast of the city of Syracuse in Onondaga County. A residential community exemplifying a high socio-economic level, residents demonstrate strong support for all aspects of the school system. Fayetteville-Manlius is also one of only 20 public school communities in the country that hosts an ABC (A Better Chance) program for young women.

Educational philosophy

The district’s educational philosophy provides a foundation of beliefs and principles upon which the staff conducts its work. The district places an emphasis on academics balanced with special area disciplines; holds expectations that challenge the caliber of our student body; assures curriculum development, consistency, and articulation; provides preparation for higher education/employment; develops facility with the use of technology and maintains accountability. F-M High School

At Fayetteville-Manlius High School, we strive to help our students become effective communicators, global learners, critical thinkers and socially responsible citizens. The high school program focuses on preparing students for higher education.

Counseling

A student is assigned to a counselor upon entering ninth grade and remains with that counselor throughout high school. In addition to working with students in one-to-one and group settings, the counselors educate students through the F-M Guidance Curriculum. Students meet with their counselors in a series of grade-level seminars throughout the year. Post-secondary school planning and introduction to Career Center resources are important aspects of this program.

Both a weighted and unweighted cumulative grade point average are calculated at the beginning of the senior year. Fayetteville-Manlius has a policy of not ranking students.
