During a visit to his former stomping grounds, a broadcasting veteran and former Fayetteville-Manlius High School alumnus shared career insights, tips and knowledge with a group of aspiring student-journalists.
On May 13, Miami Heat Executive Director of Broadcasting Ted Ballard (1988) presented to F-M High School’s Advanced Broadcast Journalism class about what it’s like to work in the industry, and how he’s applied his high school coursework lessons to the real world.
Ballard, who upon graduating from F-M went on to study at University of Virginia, is a 25-year veteran of the sports broadcasting industry. His professional resume includes the NFL (Washington Redskins), HBO Sports and Turner Sports, and in 1998 he joined the Miami Heat organization as its television director.
Now in his 21st season with the Heat, Ballard works as its Executive Director of Broadcasting – a position he’s held since 2004.
During his visit to F-M, Ballard offered professional advice, discussed with students the unique skill sets and critical attributes required of candidates in the industry’s competitive marketplace and encouraged students to network.
His visit ties into the district’s mission and priority areas, including providing students with authentic learning experiences through global and local networking.
