The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has once again named the Fayetteville-Manlius School District one of the nation’s “Best Communities for Music Education in America.”
F-M is among 754 school districts to receive the designation from NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocates active participation in music-making.
“We are proud of our students, staff and parents for working together to make our music program one of the best in the country,” said Carlos Mendez, the district’s music coordinator.
Schools and districts are evaluated based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, and access to music instruction. The foundation, with the assistance of researchers at The Institute for Educational Research and Public Service of Lawrence, Kansas (an affiliate of the University of Kansas), evaluate participants on these factors, and designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and greater access to music education.
Established in 2006, the NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the NAMM and its nearly 10,300 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music-making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs, according to the organization’s website.
