Fayetteville-Manlius School District students in grades 7-12 will have the opportunity to participate in a confidential survey to gauge students’ perceptions of the school climate.
During the week of Oct. 7, participating students will complete a questionnaire that prompts them to evaluate their perspective of school engagement, safety and environment.
This survey will help district officials evaluate the school environment, which is one of the priority area initiatives of the district’s strategic plan as directed by the board of education.
A link to access the survey via a secure online portal will be sent to student’s F-M school email accounts. A designated time will be established for students to complete the survey in school. Students who are not in attendance during in-school survey administration and wish to complete the questionnaire, may access and complete the survey at their leisure using a laptop or mobile device.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete for students in grades 7 and 8, and approximately 15 minutes for students in grades 9-12.
This is the third year the district has partnered with Research & Marketing Strategies (RMS), a third-party area market research firm, to administer the survey. Responses are confidential and anonymous.
Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the survey.
A final report of the survey results from RMS is expected this winter. The report will be shared with the district’s Community Relations Committee and then with the board of education at a regularly-scheduled meeting.
A sample copy of the survey questions is available online or may be requested by contacting Sarah Gridley at the Fayetteville-Manlius District Office at 315-692-1200 or by email at sgridley@fmschools.org.
The district expects to offer additional voluntary opportunities to assess school climate during the 2024-25 school year, including a staff survey in December 2024, as well as a follow-up student survey and a parent/guardian survey in spring 2025.
