F-M school community invited to participate in annual mental health awareness walk

On Friday, June 7, Fayetteville-Manlius High School’s Suicide Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) Club will be hosting the 7th annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk.

The event is the American Foundation for Suicide and Prevention’s (AFSP) signature student fundraising series that takes place nationwide, designed to bring awareness to suicide prevention and mental health.

F-M students, families, staff and community members are invited to take part in the walk, which will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the F-M High School athletic stadium. Individuals who wish to participate may register online or onsite the day of the walk at 6:45 p.m.

The event will include performances, games, activities, and local mental health organizations will be in attendance to provide information and resources. There will also be an administrator/teacher dunk tank to bolster fundraising efforts.

SAFE Club’s fundraising goal this year is $10,000, which will directly support AFSP research, education, support, and advocacy. Last year’s walk helped to raise more than $7,000.

To support SAFE Club’s efforts, donations can be made online. For more information about the walk, please contact Marissa Patrick at mpatrick@fmschools.org.
