F-M student, teacher awarded for artistic innovation

A Fayetteville-Manlius student and teacher are being recognized for making the school community a more bright and vibrant place!

F-M Art Coordinator and Art Department Instructional Specialist Kathryn Gabriel, and newly graduated FMHS student Anna Bertrand were recognized in June during the second annual Gala for the Arts. Hosted by The Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation (CiTi) Arts-in-Education Department, the event recognizes the invaluable contributions of educators and students in the fine arts community.

The event was held at the Everson Museum in Syracuse. Work made by students, teachers, and families in the surrounding school communities was highlighted. Innovation in arts education is awarded, with a focus on those who impact their schools and communities using art as a tool for that work. The event also aims to emphasize the need for continued investment in arts education.

Earlier this year, Anna won eight awards in the 2024 Central New York Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Seven were for paintings and one for her art portfolio.
