F-M students recognized, advance in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program

Eighteen Fayetteville-Manlius High School students earned national recognition for their academic accomplishments.

Six F-M seniors earn chance at scholarships

Six seniors were named semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program and are each now competing for one of more than 6,500 National Merit Scholarships.

The F-M seniors are among more than 16,000 students who qualified for the scholarship program by scoring among the highest in their respective states on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

The program’s Merit Scholars will be named in the spring.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2025 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 280 business organizations, higher education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence, according to NMSC.
