French
In March, Fayetteville-Manlius School District students studying French in grades 7 through 12 participated in the National French Contest.
The National French Contest is an online exam of students’ listening, reading and grammar skills in French sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students participated in 6 different levels of the contest, from 01 (beginning French – seventh-grade students) to 5 AP (Advanced Placement French students).
This year, four F-M students received special prizes from the Central New York chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French for earning the highest score in their level in all of Central New York: Wadaana Ahmed (Eagle Hill Middle School, grade 7, level 01 exam), Noya Amjad (F-M High School, grade 9, level 2 exam), Emmeline Reinhardt (F-M High School, grade 11, level 4 exam), and Gene Balian (F-M High School, grade 12, level 5 exam).
F-M students earned a total of 9 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals, along with 54 honorable mentions.

German
In April, F-M High School German students Clara Leak and Ruthie Taber were honored by the German American Society of Central New York and each received a $1000 scholarship. The award ceremony, held at the Turners’ Society in Syracuse, consisted of dancing, singing and a German meal. Scholarship recipients gave acceptance speeches in both German and English.
In May, F-M High School senior James Grace won a Language Educators of Central New York (LECNY) Annual Student Scholarship for his study of two languages, German 5AP and Spanish 5. The $200 scholarship award is given annually to three graduating seniors who have a passion for learning languages and successfully complete multiple years of foreign language study.

Nearly 20,000 high school students from across the country participate in four different levels of the contest, from 1 (beginner) to 4 (intermediate), annually.

Nearly 85,000 students in grades 6 through 12 from across the country participated in six different levels of the contest, from 01 (beginner) to 6 (advanced).
Students from F-M High School earned a total of 10 gold, 13 silver and 11 bronze medals, along with 19 honorable mentions.
