German National Honor Society inducts 11 new members

At a ceremony on Dec. 4, eleven Fayetteville-Manlius High School students in grade 11 were inducted into the Fayetteville-Manlius Delta Epsilon Phi German National Honor Society, New York Beta Alpha Chapter.

Delta Epsilon Phi celebrates student academic achievement in German and promotes the study of the language, literature and culture of German speaking countries.

The chapter’s existing members include the following grade 12 students: Hudson Brenner, Jackson Brown, Izze Christen, Devin Hack, Hiro Havey, Andrew Hoehner, Ethan Houser, Vincent Liu, Duncan McDaniel, Elliot McDaniel, Ritvik Mehta, Nicholas Prince, Erin Schwedes, Jon Taber, Cullen Vredenburgh.

Membership in F-M’s chapter has the following requirements:

  • Pay the AATG fee ($5)
  • Studied three or more years of German
  • Maintain a minimum average of 90% in German in high school 
  • Maintain an overall minimum average of 75%
  • No gaps in the study of German
  • No documented violations of F-M’s Academic Integrity Policy in any class
  • Participate in the following extra-curricular German activities (a minimum of 3 junior year and a minimum of 2 senior year):
    • Represent German Club (if you are a member) at the Activities Fair
    • Volunteer at CNY German American Society’s Syracuse Oktoberfest 
    • Participate in the fall induction ceremony as a senior
    • German Lip Dub in your junior or senior year (prior years do not count)
    • Take the National German Exam after school in January (2 credits for scoring above 90%)
    • Help with the after-school elementary German class (Feb.-March, 5 weeks)
    • Attend the German American Society of CNY’s Student Night in April
    • Participate in structured and consistent tutoring of high school or middle school students in German after school
    • One-on-one practice with German 3 students in April and May for checkpoint B orals (2 sessions) 
    • Membership in German Club with consistent attendance (at least 8 meetings)
