The Fayetteville-Manlius HOSA Chapter took home several awards at the Spring Leadership Conference in April. HOSA is a student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. It aims to empower students to become future health professionals by promoting career opportunities in the health industry.
Competitive events at the spring conference vary based on student-interest, but all are in specialized healthcare fields, such as public health, medical spelling and reading, and human growth and development.
F-M students who medaled in their respective events include: Stella Affeldt, Noya Amjad, Surin Bong, Sureeta Das, Rheaa Goyal, Sanaa Goyal, William Huang, Haris Iqbal, Hinako (Jasmine) Kobayashi, Caitlyn McLain, Erin McLain, Alishba Rehman, and Riley Qian.
All those who placed in the top 3 in the state are now eligible for participation at the International Leadership Conference in Nashville this June. Two F-M students also earned NYS HOSA officer positions this year. Sureeta Das was elected as Vice President and Noya Amjad as Treasurer. Sureeta played a big role in advocating for the chance to apply, since it required school backing.
