Locations: Two positions available, one at Eagle Hill Middle School and one at Wellwood Middle School
Hours: 32.5 hours per-week, 7:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. (Monday – Friday)
Rate of Pay: $28.54/hour
Qualifications: Teaching Assistant Certification through NYS Department of Education is required for any Teaching Assistant position (or pending certification to be attained within 45 days of hire). All positions require the ability to establish positive relationships with staff, students and parents; the ability to multitask and be flexible in a busy setting; and the ability to effectively manage students in high-activity settings while attending to students’ safety and personal wellbeing.
Job Description: Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects
- Provide the teacher with information about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences
- Assist students in the use of available instructional resources, and assisting in the development of instructional materials
- Utilize their own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: art, music, family and consumer science, physical education, technology, and similar subjects
- Assist in related instructional work as required
- Assist with taking students to and from the bus
- Playground and cafeteria supervision
- Assist students with specific health-related activities as appropriate, including toileting
- When working in a special education classroom, employees may be required to regularly perform the following tasks:
- Toileting needs
- Feeding needs
- Lifting students when needed
- Pushing students in assistive devices (e.g. wheelchairs)
